Top 5 Things to Consider When Picking your Wedding Venue
Finding the right venue is the most critical aspect of your event. If you’re looking at the map of Connecticut and wondering where to say, “I do”, here are our Top 5 Things to Consider When Picking your Wedding Venue, as told by your favorite wedding florist.
I.Is it the right size?
Will this space accommodate your guest count appropriately? Booking a venue that’s too small is an obvious pass but booking a venue that holds way more than your intended guest count is also a bad look. You don’t want to have to spend additional money adding décor or have it seem like your guests are floating out past the dance floor. You want the right mix between spacious and intimate.
III. Is the menu a priority?
Many venues provide their own catering which has its pros and cons. If you want a little more control over the menu you may want to look at a venue that has the option to select from a list of caterers or to bring in your own.
II. What is your iconic shot?
While it’s highly likely you’ll have a photo album printed with all your favorite moments of the day, you’ll also likely have one photo printed and hung in your home. What do you want that moment to be? Do you want a moment captured in front of the coast? Surrounded by an evergreen forest? On a dancefloor beneath glittering chandeliers? Once you identify that feeling then you can isolate your search to places where that’s an option.
IV. Venue Aesthetic
The venue is literally in EVERY PHOTO. Consider this as you tour the venue to make sure you’re cool with the floors, the drapes, the walls, and miscellaneous décor around the place. While every photographer can erase an inconvenient exit sign in an otherwise perfect shot, they can’t do anything about the carpet installed in 1995. It’s also a good idea to scope out the grounds to make sure there are places for garden photos – even in the dead of winter your photographer will love the natural light an outdoor moment will give you.
V. Weather Plans
I love an al fresco reception as much as the next girl but you need to have an alternative weather plan. We’ve done up to half a dozen floorplans for a single venue based on rentals and weather options. We’re happy to help our couples work through the different ways to make an event happen but it’s always better to go into a space knowing you’ll need a Plan B rather than freak out the week of the wedding because you didn’t consider what happens if 10 feet of snow shows up at your door.
Now that you’ve gone through trying to picture yourself if the space, here are some of our favorite wedding venues in Connecticut. If yours isn’t on the list, call us and we can put it there together after we celebrate your big day!
