When it comes to weddings, we all want that perfect mix of elegance, personal touches, and a little bit of magic. Recently, we had the pleasure of working with a couple to bring their modern, chic wedding dreams to life at Gwyn Careg Inn, and let me tell you—it was stunning. As a florist, we’re all about creating those special moments, from jaw-dropping bouquets to cozy candle-lit receptions. Let’s take a little tour through this gorgeous day and how we added our First Blush touch.

venue: gwyn careg inn
The Gwyn Careg Inn is seriously one of Connecticut’s hidden gems. It’s the kind of venue that feels like it’s out of a storybook. There’s 14 acres of beautiful landscape, a picture-perfect 3-acre pond, and the most charming enclosed Spanish Garden, complete with stone walls. Oh, and did I mention it’s on the National Historic Registry? It’s just one of those places that instantly makes you feel like something special is about to happen.
bouquets + bouts
When it comes to bouquets, we kept things super elegant but modern. The bride carried a mix of baby’s breath, white roses, and white orchids, and it was absolutely perfect for the sleek, sexy vibe they were going for. The bridesmaids carried all-baby’s breath bouquets, which gave off this airy, cloud-like feel that tied in with the overall minimalist theme. At First Blush, we’re all about florals that make a statement without overwhelming the space (or you!).
ceremony
The ceremony was intimate and we framed the space with two modern floral pieces that matched the overall aesthetic—think clouds of baby’s breath with a touch of sleekness. And can we talk about the bubble exit? Instead of the typical confetti or rice, the couple opted for a fun and playful bubble send-off. It was such a sweet moment, and the photos? Absolutely magical.
cocktail hour
One of the standout features was the large seating chart, draped with a cascading garland of baby’s breath. It greeted guests as they arrived, offering a fresh, ethereal look that tied perfectly into the overall floral theme. Right beside it stood a tall, dramatic floral installation made up of delphinium and white roses, and a draping cascade of baby’s breath. This statement piece anchored the reception space and gave the entrance a grand, welcoming feel—guests couldn’t help but stop and admire its beauty.
As the night progressed, guests were treated to a cool, laid-back cigar lounge tucked away from the main tent. Complete with vintage furniture, oriental rugs, and a neon sign flashing "Till Death Do Us Party," this space added a playful, edgy contrast to the otherwise chic reception décor. It was the perfect spot for guests to kick back, relax, and enjoy the vibe. The mix of modern florals and timeless vintage pieces tied the entire evening together, offering that perfect balance of fun and sophistication.
reception
The reception was a perfect blend of simplicity and sophistication. Set beneath a classic white tent, the couple opted for a black-and-white color scheme that gave the entire space a sleek, modern look. Each table featured minimalistic centerpieces— bud vases with single reflexed white roses—that added a touch of elegance without overwhelming the table. The real magic came from the natural light filtering through the tent, highlighting the chic glassware and understated black napkins. Guests dined and celebrated in an airy, open setting that was equal parts relaxed and refined, letting the clean lines and soft color palette steal the show.
